Reedspace 2016

I’ve always dreamed of having a solo show in Manhattan. So to see my BBoy Monsters work up at Reedspace, a venue some of my heroes (such as Phunk Studio, whose work inspired my World of One series) have shown in, this was dream come true!!!

I was much more involved with the organization of this exhibition than normal. So it really felt like it was brought to life through pure willpower. The majority of shows I participate in, all I’m really expected to do is deliver the art on time. This show however, not only did I make the art, I also:

  • * crowdfunded the printing/production costs
  • * handled the bulk of of the marketing and promotion (social media, writing press releases, begging people to share the work)
  • * designed the vinyl lettering and layout of the exhibition

Hell I even bought all the snacks!

The day the show opened, I was totally overwhelmed by all the love I received from friends and strangers alike. I felt so happy and grateful to be able to share this work, and contribute to the spread of BBoy culture.

When the dust finally settled and the work came down, I felt so validated in my artistic practice. The only complaint I have is that I wish I actually sold some work, but then again I didn’t really expect to sell anything either.

At the end of the day, I still had a solo show in Manhattan! To have achieved this feat alone, is in itself a victory to me.

Hope you guys enjoyed the work. Thank you to everyone who took the time to come out and see it! For your viewing pleasure, please check out some pictures and video from the exhibition below!
